Hip-Hop legend. Re-Emerging Star. Southern Rap Pioneer.
All of these words describe Pimp C, one-half of hip-hop duo UGK. Chad Butler (i.e. Pimp C) was found dead in his LA Mondrian hotel room on Tuesday. A cause of death has yet to be determined however investigators do not suspect foul play. UGK opened the doors for many other Houston rappers such as Mike Jones, Slim Thug and Paul Wall to gain commerical success. Pimp C played a key role in the rise of Southern hip-hop and the UGK hit "Big Pimpin'" introduced his talent to those outside of the Houston city limits. Pimp C is the second Houston area rapper to die in the past few months. Kenneth "Big Moe" Moore died two months ago of a heart attack. John "Big Hawk" Hawkins was shot and killed outside his home in 2006. As a Houston native, my heart truly goes out to Pimp's family during this difficult time.
